American Legion Nelson County Post 42 is proud to support the Department of Kentucky Commander John Costigan and Auxiliary President Karen Toll in their commitment to support the Dogs Helping Heroes program. Dogs Helping Heroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping restore lost freedom and peace of mind to wounded veterans, first responders, and Gold Star Families by gifting specially trained and certified assistance dogs.
Nelson County Post 42 made a $2000 donation to this program. Pictured is Post 42 Commander Charlie Greenwell, Department of Kentucky Commander John Costigan, Adjutant/Service Officer Chris Gootee, and Finance Officer John Stover.
Each year, American Legion Nelson County Post 42 awards a $500 scholarship to a dependent of a First Responder or Veteran. This year’s recipient is Brett Phelps. Brett’s grades and activities outlined his remarkable packet that was submitted to Jim Dittmeier, Chair of the Scholarship Committee. Pictured is Jim Dittmeier presenting the check to Brett Phelps. Also pictured is Post Commander Charlie Greenwell, Brett’s Father, Mother, Brother, and Scholarship Committee Member Bill Gies.
